Noli Timere, Latin for “be not afraid,” brings an innovative world premiere spectacle to McCarter through a five-year collaboration between Director/Choreographer - Rebecca Lazier and Sculptor Janet Echelman.
This groundbreaking aerial performance features eight multidisciplinary performers dancing up to 25 feet in the air within a voluminous, custom-designed Echelman net sculpture. “A universe rich with colors and textures that’s delightful to explore.” -New York Times
Life And Trust is a world of money, sex, and power unfolding in the heart of New York’s Financial District. Those who enter Life And Trust may roam through its sprawling realms at their own pace, as Faustian legends or “deals with the devil” materialize all around them. Beginning on the eve of the Great Crash of 1929 and careening back to the Gilded Age of New York, Life And Trust explores the cost of ambition and desire through the eyes of its many characters. From Wall Street tycoons to vaudeville stars, daring scientists to rebellious bohemians, these dream-like figures form a searing love letter to the history of New York, as well as an exploration of human folly and ingenuity. A great spectacle awaits those who are willing to wager their souls by stepping into Life And Trust. Will you be one of them?

PERSONALLY I FIND IT RUDE TO BE BORING is about cycles of pleasure-seeking. It’s about how we justify destructive behavior in search of ephemeral gratification. It’s about the solitude of pleasure—characters who can only look at themselves even as they are surrounded by friends. For me, it’s also about nostalgia. Current pleasure never feels as good as we remember past pleasure feeling. In a world still collectively processing the social damage done by a global pandemic, we ask: is it possible to feel as good as we remember feeling? And if we can, is it worth it?

THIS IS ME: LETTERS FROM THE FRONT LINES is a dance film that was created at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, exploring how the climate of isolation prompted us to look within ourselves. We follow the paths of military veterans and first responders as they share what it means to be a true warrior - to be on the front lines - and fight the invisible enemy that all humanity had then begun battling. At a time when most had been asked to halt and withdraw, others, like soldiers, were charging forward.
The movie captures the resilience, determination and hope of the human spirit. It offers a retrospective look at a moment in time, three years ago, and invites a reflection on how humanity is incessantly experiencing, responding to, and recovering from the continuous occurence of crisis, in all its forms.
THIS IS ME: Letters from the Front Lines is dedicated to all the Veterans for their service, commitment and sacrifice and to all of our COVID-19 First Responders for their dedication, selflessness, and resilience.
